Youth Unlimited Revolutions Bayview Bike Park Pump Track

29 Jul

you may remember the Revitalization project from the spring, Youth Unlimited Revolutions Has been working with Scott Laver of the City of Toronto and Mike Hession from Ontario Bike Park Construction along with input from Daniel Scott from IMBA Canada, to come up with a design for the Bayview Bike Park that will appeal to bike riders of all skill levels and disciplines.  Phase on was to build a pumptrack section with an x providing a track for beginners and intermediate to advanced riders.

There were, as expected, a number of youth connected to YU Revolutions on hand to help out and to test the track of course.  Also on hand throughout construction, waiting patiently all week to ride the track was Nick Outram, a Top ranked competitive rider who helped with the build and took the opportunity to ride.

QR Code Event Photobooth

28 Jun

On June 16, Youth Unlimited North York brought together fundraisers and volunteers and build the worlds largest QR Code.  you can lean more about the details of the event at theqrcode.ca and you can see a video below.

One of the ways that I was involved in the event as a sponsor was by setting up a photobooth, we had some fun individuals and groups come through and we e-mailled them their pictures so that they could tweet and share them during the event.

In the end, we did create the worlds largest scannable QR Code and are currently waiting on word from Guinness to see if they will accept the attempt.  Here are some shots from the day.

Youth Unlimited Revolutions BMX Park Revitalization

15 May

Last weekend, Youth Unlimited Revolutions gathered the support of around 100 volunteers and worked to revitalize a BMX park that has been left un maintained for quite some time.  The project got the attention of the local councillor and a couple of trail building groups as well and will see an even bigger project happening in July with additional elements being added to the park.  After a bit of work, it was necessary for some of the youth to get out and test their work.  Here are some images and a timelapse of the day.

Krystaal In Concert

30 Apr

If you are looking for an inspiring group of people to be around who have a story filled with miracle, you would be wise to start with the Lwamba brothers Michel, Fabian and Aliston who make up the group Krystaal.  The brothers were, at one time, refugees from the Congo who weren’t sure if their other family members were alive or not.  After spending time in camps separated from their brother, Michel and Aliston were brought to Canada.  Shortly after arriving in Canada Michel sent a letter to a friend in his old camp to let him know he was doing well, the letter was spotted by Fabian who had been moved to the same camp that his brothers had just left.  Fabian could not mistake the handwriting and was reunited with his brothers after this miracle sighting of the letter   One blogger has told their story here.  Since being reunited in Canada along with a number of other family members, they have been making award winning music and giving back through their incredible gift.

I had the privilege of capturing their concert last night and a privilege it was!  Along with an opening band Echoes of Praise, they put together 3 hours of wonderful music!

Chef Michael Smith and Integrated Appliances.

28 Nov Chef Michael Smith Jay McIntyre Photography

I really wanted to get this post done a lot sooner, but following the event I came down with a tonsil infection while 2/3 of my kids came down with an ear infection and my wife fought off strep.  Didn’t really have that much in the way of free time.

All of that aside, last Tuesday night I was asked to photograph an event hosted by Amir of Integrated Appliances and KWA Appliances that was attended and addressed by Chef Michael Smith.  Chef Michael Smith spent time talking to a group of kitchen designers about designing kitchens for real life, while a chef prepared selections from his “Best Of Chef At Home” cookbook.

Chef Michael Smith is truly an incredible person!  What’s incredible about him is that he’s normal, and he cares about the things that we are supposed to care about!  it was those cares that came accross from this evening and it was those cares that he spoke to a group of kitchen designers about.  I left the evening inspired and with a handful of great images!

And a signed copy of the cookbook!
