Ally On The Blog

29 Feb

Last week I had the opportunity to collaborate with three great ladies that I connected with on Model Mayhem.  Ally, as it turns out is a Toronto model who grew up in the Miramichi where I lived fro three years in my late teens.  Small world.  We also had Maeghan who is a talented makeup artist and two outfits provided by a Leanne, a local designer.

The first two looks are as designed by Leanne and styled by Ally.  For the third look Maeghan added some drama to the makeup and we got outside into the cold.

Ilford FP5 400 scans

27 Feb

I was recently loaned the use of a canon AE-1 manual focus film slr. This is an insanely awesome little camera, if there were no such thing as digital and autofocus, it would be my primary camera. Seeing as there is such thing as digital and autofocus, the AE-1 is a bit of a novelty, but it’s also an opportunity to think really hard about photography. Shooting film means that you need to be fully committed to the shot before you press that shutter and I see that as an opportunity to learn even more and push myself as a photographer.
So I set out to load the camera and came across Ilford FP5 black and white film which is what the call “true” black and white. True black and white film only captures black and white as opposed to regular black and white which captures all of the colors but processes them as black and white. The results are a rich contrast and really deep blacks. Shooting this film will require a little more thought as I approach each shot but I really like it. Here are a few scans from the roll

The Peppers! Should have Been On The Blog Before Christmas!

21 Feb

I really wanted to get these images up on the blog earlier!  This is really one of the greatest families on earth so when I was approached to do a shoot with them, there was absolutely no way to not make it happen.  We ended up shooting just smack dab in the middle of a bunch of rain in the late autumn and ended up with the perfect day to shoot.

Youth Unlimited North York And YU Revolutions Earn-A-Bike Launch

10 Feb

Youth Unlimited  North York and YU Revolutions has officially launched their Earn-A-Bike program.  The program is giving 9youth from the Willowdale area of Toronto the opportunity to learn complete care and maintenance of a BMX bike from assembly on.  Through the 7 week program they will learn how to properly maintain and repair a BMX bike and at the successful completion of the program they will have earned the bike as their own!  The program is being hosted at Spring Garden Church and is in partnership with Silent Sports

I have the privilege of being a part of the program, photographing this evening and again as they wrap things up by riding their new bikes at Joyride 150 on the closing evening of the program
